One historical place that needs to be better maintained so that it can be as beautiful as before is Istana Maimun in Medan, North Sumatra.
The beauty and serenity of this historical site are decreasing compared to its condition in the past.
A photo taken from the tower of Masjid Raya Al-Mahsun in 1931 illustrates this contrast.
In the photo from 91 years ago, Istana Maimun looks graceful and majestic with a semi-circular road in front of it surrounded by trees.
The exterior design is reminiscent of the Palace of Versailles in France or the Taj Mahal in India, both of which have long been national properties of France and India.
Being national properties makes it easier for the governments of both countries to take good care of them.
Both countries take good care of them because these historical sites are the heritage of the nation that provides insight into the past of the nation and how its society has evolved to its current form.
In other words, these places represent the national identity that shapes a nation and a country.
By being continuously maintained, both buildings remain beautifully eternal, making them continuously visited by the people, ensuring that the shared identity is not forgotten from generation to generation.
Istana Maimun should be the same. While it is still visited by the people, its attractiveness may decrease if it is not maintained as well as France and India maintain the Palace of Versailles and the Taj Mahal.
Last Saturday, Nusanews.net visited the palace. It cannot be denied that the place is truly exotic, but concerning issues are revealed when getting to know the palace more closely.
This is evident not only from the exterior, but also from the interior. It is clear that this historical site, which is also a part of Indonesia’s national heritage, needs more maintenance.
The front lawn of the palace, which used to be well-maintained and mesmerizing, is now not well taken care of.
